BOLD CITY SCHOLARSHIPS

Greater Life Church awards scholarships annually to college-bound high school seniors from the Sunnydale and Visitacion Valley neighborhoods of San Francisco. Bold City Coffee was created to generate funds that can be directly applied toward these scholarships.

Congratulations to our 2024 Scholarship Recipients!

We’re so pleased to announce our scholarship recipients Nifae Tinoifili and Shakirah Blaylock. These outstanding students have a bold future ahead of them. We wish them the best in their academic endeavors.

Shakira Blaylock, 2024 scholarship recipient

Shakirah is a graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School and is active in the Sunnydale Boys & Girls Club. Her career aim is to acquire the business skills and training to develop her own successful cosmetology business. She has a passion for helping women feel beautiful and confident. She’s headed to Skyline Community College in the Fall.

Nifae Tinoifili, 2024 scholarship recipient.

Nifae was 2024 student athlete of the year at Balboa High School and is headed to Lewis & Clark College in Portland to study sports medicine with the goal of becoming a physical trainer to help athletes heal from injuries and realize their fitness goals. He credits the Samoan Community Development Center (SCDC) with helping him get out of his shell and grow.

Scholarships Offered

Each year, Bold City Coffee offers $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors who are residents of the Sunnydale/Visitacion Valley community of San Francisco and participants of the Boys & Girls Club and/or the Samoan Community Development Center. This scholarship supports their ongoing post-educational studies at a community college or university.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants for our Scholarships must be:

  • Seniors attending SFUSD high schools and graduating in the spring of the application year

  • Attending a community college, four-year university, or vocational training program beginning in the fall of the application year

  • Committed to post-secondary educational goals

  • A committed participant in the Sunnydale/Viz Valley Community Boys & Girls Club and/or the Samoan Community Development Center

Selection Criteria

All applications will be reviewed and scored based on the following categories:

  • Demonstrated commitment to community service, education, and career goals

  • Teacher Reference Form 

  • One letter of recommendation 

  • 2.5 to 3.5 cumulative unweighted high school GPA (a GPA of 3.5 to 3.8 will also be considered).

Application Content

Applications must be fully completed for consideration. The following is required:

  • Personal essay (650-word minimum)

  • Teacher Reference Form 

  • Letter of Recommendation: Samoan Community Development Center or Boys/Girls Club Staff

  • High school transcript

  • Upload school or professional photo

Our next application submission process opens on March 1, 2025, and will close on May 1, 2025.
